This article aims to analyze the paradigm shift that has affected 21st century Mexican dramaturgy for children and young audiences, as a result of the global transformations that began in the early 1990s. Likewise, the article examines how childhood and adolescence are historical constructions that emerge in response to sensibilities, ways of life, and social needs at different historical moments. Canadian actress, playwright, and director Suzanne Lebeau is identified as a key figure in this change; she exerted a decisive influence on some of the most relevant Mexican playwrights for children and adolescents. Through the analysis of selected works, the study explores the concerns and needs to which the most current discourses respond, and also the perspectives and conceptions that drive them.
