El circo en llamas: los viajes de Giuseppe Chiarini en México (1864-1868)/The Circus in Flames: Giuseppe Chiarini’s Travels in Mexico (1864-1868) is a two-volume book resulting from a meticulous study by researcher Sergio López, which takes us on a journey through the professional life of Italian circus artist Giuseppe Chiarini and his stay in Mexico from 1864 to 1868. This account is told through the historical, social, political, and cultural context of the circus, which prevailed and influenced the European artist’s performances. In this way, it opens up various lines of research around this spectacle. This investigation is based on a variety of documents on the performing arts, but also on historical novels and the visual arts (paintings, illustrations, caricatures, and engravings).
