Call for Papers CONCEPT 1(30)/2025
The theatre, film and new media festival today.
Specifics. Role models. Challenges. Perspectives
Dear collaborators,
The editorial board of CONCEPT academic journal and UNATC’s Research Development and Innovation Department invite you to submit research works, such as original articles and scientific essays, for the dossier The theatre, film and new media festival today. Specifics. Role models. Challenges. Perspectives. We invite researchers, festival curators, academics to share their experience in creating and organizing festivals, with an emphasis on specific theater, film and new media events.
Proposals that can inspire you in the organization of the material are:
- Contemporary psychologies and sociologies. Is there still a need for togetherness today?
- Local, regional, national – intersections at festival concept level
- The festival and its artistic opportunities
- The festival and its educational opportunities. Is there a profound connection between the festival world and education? How can schools become catalysts of quality festivals?
- Collaboration mechanisms/inter-festival networks and the path to efficiency
- The festival, part of the sustainable and integrated economic development mechanism
- The role of festivals in the promotion and valorization of heritage and tourist potential. Cultural epicenters. Arguments for prioritizing artworks and artistic events as country brands.
- The role of festivals in programs for social inclusion and regeneration of marginalized communities
- Who defines the current trends in theatre, film and new media? Are festivals expected to be trend-setters?
- How can we measure the success of a theatre, film and new media festival other than just through numbers?
- Virtual, non-virtual? A dilemma for the cultural event?
- The hybrid post-pandemic format – temporary solution. Option for the future?
- The virtual and interactive-participatory experience in the festival sections dedicated to new media (new frontiers: VR/AR/MR/XR)
- Challenges in the recent festival industry. What are the most innovative festival formats at the moment?
- How is the festival world different from the Video-on-Demand industry in terms of shaping a community towards common goals?
- How is AI shaping the new media festivals today? How are curators responding to AI practices? Is AI seen as a distinct genre or as a potential layer added to the current arts?
- How can we overcome the ephemerality of art and new media projects and how can we archive their post-festival existence? Archiving models of the festival experience and good practices meant to inform future artworks and new generations of festival creators.
