Corpus Christi Case (2012) An Attempt to Institutionalize Far Right Censorship Against Theatre in Greece

Starting from the censorship against the performance of Terence McNally’s play, “Corpus Christi”, in 2012, which was in fact imposed by far-right’s protestors, the article examines the underground and/or overt connections of the neo-Nazi organization “Golden Dawn” with the Greek Church and presents a series of similar imposed censorships from the far-right in Greece. “Corpus Christi” case is differentiated by the previous attacks against artworks, because of the institutional position of “Golden Dawn”, at the time, as political party and its attempt to acquire the protagonist role in Greek far-right (which, until then, was owned by the Church), institutionalizing the violent censorship against artworks that didn’t fit the “Greek-orthodox” pattern.
